The Algerian freedom struggle against the French was tough. The French jailed Moufdi Zakariah, a poet affiliated with the Algerian People's Party due to political involvements. In jail, he wrote the national anthem, Qassaman, a song about the Algerian fight for independence. Zakariah had no material to write with, so he wrote the lyrics with his own blood on the prison wall.
